About the Episode
In Houston this week, a 19-year-old, college-bound young man accidentally killed himself while attempting to take a selfie with a gun. Apparently, the young man believed the gun to be unloaded when the firearm went off, striking him in the throat. This is a very avoidable tragedy, and we lead with this story to remind everyone that guns aren’t toys. There isn’t anything less toy-like than deadly force, and selfies are no place for guns, especially those that are loaded and pointed at you.
Over in St. Louis Missouri, a 11-year-old fended off two individuals who had attempted to break into the house several times. This 11-year-old and his 4-year-old sister were home alone when two suspects gained entrance to the house that they had been attempting to access all day. Upon entering, one of the suspects was shot and killed by the 11-year-old, who had access to a handgun purchased by his mother. Authorities are investigating why these children were left home alone. Both children are unharmed.
The California Assembly has approved a bill that would ban concealed carry on school campuses across the state. This particular bill simply removes an exception for CHL holders to carry on school grounds. If passed, the law would effectively make all college campuses gun-free zones. Expectedly, this measure is backed by police agencies and gun control nuts, but opposed by those who think that citizens should be able to defend themselves. The bill will go to the Senate for a final vote.
