About the Episode
We talked about using campus carry as justification for white privilege and campus carry versus dildos……If you don’t have an argument just make some stuff up….Also we had in studio Sharon Kuhlman the owner of the Bunker….Sharon chatted with us about prepping and being prepared….
There have been some protests in Austin recently surrounding the new campus carry laws. After last Thursday’s protest, the crowds went home to news about the tragic shooting in Oregon.
The reactions were predictable. Anti-gun advocates jumped the opportunity to call for more gun control, less guns, and the usual menu of freedom depriving changes.
Pro gunners, for their part, pointed to the fact that there should be more schools that allow and encourage campus carry.
This isn’t a popular idea, and I suppose it’s understandable. There have been plenty of school shootings in the past few years, and it’s only natural that people are sensitive to this issue, where children and people’s kids are involved.
But the youth involved shouldn’t make us lose our heads. There is a common thread that runs through these school shootings: they happen in places that discourage armed citizens, and they happen in places with an abundance of people. Shooters who seek the kind of notoriety that mass shooters do look for places where they will have an elongated response time from authorities and where they have the potential to do the most harm.
Campus carry will make shooters think twice. Not only will there be less time between the beginning of an incident and a response time, but more of those potential victims will be fighting back. It introduces a variable that will make shooters less sure of their intentions, and less sure of their success.
This is not a perfect system. It relies on individuals to be well trained for these types of situations. It depends on responsible gun owners who know and respect the law and the safety of others.
But good guys with guns are not a myth. Defensive shootings happen every year, and go largely undocumented. Good people always stand up for themselves and others. Good guys with guns exist. Campus carry is the way of the future, not the past. It’s time we embrace it, for safety’s sake.
