About the Episode
Between 1993 and 2013, Pew Research estimates that gun violence has dropped by about 50%. That’s the same period of time in which gun ownership doubled in the US, up from about 192 million to 350 million.
PEW also demonstrates that the surge in private gun ownership did not correlate with an increase in firearm related homicides. In fact, this increase in ownership was accompanied by a 50% drop in the annual gun-related homicide rate.
Complementing this increase in ownership is the fact that CHL permit holders nearly tripled between 2007 and now. That means a lot of those newly owned guns are for self-defense purposes.
Let’s give some context for these numbers. We hear from the liberal media about gun violence being a pervasive problem in our country. Every opportunity they get, they talk about things like gun control and magazine capacity and loopholes and universal background checks. We hear about these things because guns are supposedly a threat to public health and safety.
Not a one of those outlets spouting off this coercive government agenda cites the PEW research.
The liberal media aren’t interested in facts. They’re interested in control.
One thing that jumps out about these numbers to me is that once again, I can say that there is some really strong evidence that as gun ownership increases, crime decreases.
The numbers don’t lie: guns make our society safer. A well-armed populous is the best way to solve our crime problem. Arm yourself with the right numbers and arm yourself with the facts: more guns equal less crime. Go out and buy yourself a gun!
