James Holmes, the man who killed 12 people and injured 70 in an Aurora, CO, movie theater, has begun his trial. It has come to light that Holmes may have been even nuttier than we previously thought. He met with at least three mental health professionals at the University of Colorado prior to the massacre. Dr. Lynne Fenton reported to campus police that he had made homicidal statements, and that he fantasized about killing a lot of people. Someone must be in a state of good mental health to properly and safely handle a gun. James Holmes was not, and the system in place to prevent him from killing people failed. Hopefully this will give us a chance to discuss mental health as it relates to firearm possession.
The NYPD took down a criminal this week named Wobbles. You heard me: the NYPD has been trying to take down a criminal with a name that sounds like a kid’s cartoon. Wobbles smuggled in and sold 93 weapons to an undercover officer last year, and 9 other gang members were arrested in this sting operation. The NY Attorney General issued a statement in which he said, “This is the way that criminals get guns that they use to murder police and…New Yorkers.” Right, that’s what we’ve been saying. The criminals and are the ones committing serious, heinous gun crimes, not legal, registered gun owners. And yet these criminals were allowed to smuggle at least 93 weapons into the city before they were brought down. Gun control at its finest, ladies and gentlemen.
Hours before the shooting in Garland, TX, at a Muhammad cartoon contest, the FBI warned local authorities that one of the shooters might show up. The FBI did not think that the shooters had left Phoenix (which they had) and Garland Police have not confirmed that they received the tip. ISIS has since claimed credit for this attack (which they would do even if they hadn’t). Does it seem odd that the FBI didn’t do more, and that the shooting still happened? Wouldn’t it make more sense, in the face of clear and present danger, to intervene in a more meaningful way? Great job, FBI.
In the wake of massive failure, incompetence, and incoherence in his anti-gun movement, Michael Bloomberg and Everytown for Gun Safety is launching a news operation scheduled to debut next month. Obviously, the mainstream media aren’t doing a good enough job of trying to advance an anti-gun agenda. So, Mayor Mike, in all his history of success, is going to give gun laws and issues the unfair, one-sided coverage necessary to make people hate him even more.
In Lexington, KY this week, a young store clerk received an award for bravery after disarming one store clerk, shooting him, and sending the other one fleeing. Zara Adil took advantage of a careless criminal when he put down a gun while rifling through a cash register. The two then fought over the gun, and the criminal sustained a gunshot wound. Adil secured the gun and the cash register. The police apprehended both suspects, and police believe they were responsible for more than a dozen robberies in the area. While we can’t expect criminals to always be that stupid, we can expect armed citizens to stand up to bad people.
