This week, a Texas State Student took to heart the “Come and Take It” mantra. Hunter Schuler received an email from his property management that all grills must be removed from the property immediately, and that any grills left out would be removed by management.
Hunter did not want his property taken by an oppressive governing body, so he chained his barbeque grill to his porch and hung a flag with a grill on it, printed with words reading “come and take it.”
While we thought this was clever and a good demonstration of standing up for one’s rights, Hunter’s management did not. He returned home to a broken lock and chain, with no barbeque grill in sight.
This inspired Hunter to take a trip to Lowes and bought cement and procured a cheap grill. He then cemented his grill to his back porch. Maintenance workers were amused by this effort, but still intended to take the grill. After speaking with the property manager, Hunter forced the company to return his original grill and rescind the ultimatum that grill could not be kept on the property, so long as Hunter kept the grill inside when not in use.
This story should teach us a few things.
First, your property is yours. No one, not another person, not the government can seize your property out of the blue.
Second, the governing bodies with which we interact cannot change the rules whenever they feel like it. It’s unfair to say that one day you can have a grill, and the next day you cannot have a grill.
Finally, you all know I’m not just talking about grills.
We all need to stand up for our rights. What’s ours is ours, and there are some things that no earthly being can take away from us.
And of course, More Guns equals less crime…..the best way to stand up for your rights is to go out and buy yourself a gun. And a grill. You’ve been listening to Come and Talk It! with Michael Cargill.
