Here is the Trump effect;
- Mexican immigrants: “They’re bringing drugs, crime and are rapist.”
- “A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”
- “I could shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters.”
Trump wins these primaries Nevada 46%, Tennessee 39%, Michigan 37%, Donald Trump just won’t go away, all of the idiotic things he says don’t seem to do him or his campaign any harm.
Put it this way: how many presidential candidates do you know that can talk about their junk on national cable broadcast and get away with it? Even Bill Clinton had to be impressed by that one.
I don’t want to make this about Trump, at least not directly. As much as he tries to make it all about him, his campaign and its success really have nothing to do with him. It’s all about his supporters, the sheep that make up his hateful flock.
What has Trump advocated, in terms of policy and how he’ll change the status quo? Very little. What we have been able to surmise is that he wants a wall…a big wall…a huge wall, and he wants Mexico to pay for it. He also wants everyone he doesn’t like to leave the country. This is the most cogent tenets of his platform, and it is hardly that. Forget that the wall (we don’t know how much it would really cost) would increase spending without increasing revenue, forget that it wouldn’t create that many jobs, and forget that the idea comes from the Great Wall of China (here’s a history lesson: people got over that wall eventually). Forget all of that.
Think about what that wall means. It means government sponsored, government paid for (which means that tax payers like you and me) are paying for a global stance of hatred and exclusion. I don’t want a big government, and I certainly don’t want a big government that uses my money to practice hatred.
If you think I’m off my rocker, consider this: he has his supporters pledge support to him, raising their right hand. You’ve probably seen it by now. It looks like a Nazi salute. Maybe Trump is a buffoon, but if he’s as smart as he likes to brag he is, he would know the historical context for that little gesture he made people do in three states. I’m not that worried about our PC culture, but that threw up some red flags for me.
So what we have is a hateful, intolerant moron running for president on a platform of empty words and no real plan, at least not one that has been made clear.
I won’t say that Trump is Hitler, because he’s not. That comparison is a scare tactic from the left. Trump isn’t really coming up with new ways to hate people; rather, he’s capitalizing on some people’s preexisting prejudices.
But his followers…they sure do remind me of sheep. They follow, the scream, they cheer, and they direct their hate where he tells them to. It is that kind of blind following that scares me more than anything.
Those people should stop. Take a moment. Think for yourself. Be conscious of what you’re doing and saying. Don’t be sheep.
More guns, less crime. Go out and buy yourself a gun.
