This week, Wendy Davis, former candidate for the governorship of Texas, revealed that she did not, in fact support open carry gun laws. She opposes them, quite adamantly, and told her interviewer she wishes she had taken a different public opinion. Davis did not win the election, partly because she was unclear and unidentifiable on many issues, but also, as it turns out, a liar.
Bushmaster, a gun manufacturer, is facing a lawsuit for distributing the gun that was used in the Sandy Hook massacre. The lawsuit, while dubious, is continuing to proceed. The grounds for the lawsuit are nonexistent, and the entire basis of the plaintiffs’ case is derived from implicit law that only anti-gunners could just make up. We’ll call this our example of the week for how liberals are cheaters.
We like to report good and entertaining self-defense stories in part to demonstrate how guns can be used to prevent or stop crime. In this instance, it was a sushi knife. On Tuesday, a robber came into an Illinois sushi restaurant and demanded cash from the hostess, threatening her with a pellet gun that looked like the real McCoy. Unfortunately for the robber, the sushi chef was quick to respond, brandishing a sharp sushi knife at the suspect. The man turned to run, and was apprehended by other restaurant employees. It’s early in the year yet, but it appears we have an early front-runner for self-defense story of the year.
A fireworks stand in Katy, Texas, proved to stout for two armed robbers this week. During an attempted robbery, the manager of the stand pulled a firearm and a gunfight proceeded. One of the armed robbers was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. The other managed to get away, but no money was taken and no innocents were harmed. This is a very common type of self-defense: an instance in which a gun is used, and no one dies. Unfortunately, these instances are not included in relevant statistics about defensive gun use, and we are hoping to change that at Come and Talk It!
Finally, a pregnant couple in Indianapolis got out of a particularly sticky situation. A suspect forced himself into the couple’s apartment, pulled his gun, and disarmed the would-be victim. However, the man and his pregnant fiancé wrestled the gun back from the intruder and shot him dead at the scene. We would like to commend the couple on keeping cool heads and escaping the situation in one piece.
