Chief Art Acevedo of the Austin Police Department made some interesting comments this week in the Texas Senate Committee.
He asserted that the campus carry bill would turn a lot of sexual assault victims into murder victims.
Acevedo caught plenty of flak for this, but he doesn’t get a pass on this show.
What Acevedo failed to recognize this week is that campus carry will allow the victim to turn into the survivor. The potential sexual assault victim could also carry on campus.
This bill levels the playing field. The right to keep and bear arms is permission from government to protect oneself from those who think they do not need permission.
How many victims might have different stories to tell if they had firearms and firearm training?
How many tragedies might we have avoided if guns weren’t kept from law abiding citizens?
What Acevedo alleged is that it is better to have a woman sexually assaulted than to give her the right and responsibility to defend herself.
And that’s appalling.
