We have plenty of legal news this week, but first, we have tragic news from New York City this week. Saturday afternoon, two NYPD police officers were shot dead as they sat in their marked patrol car. Investigators believe that this was retaliation to the Michael Brown and Eric Garner incidents and grand jury non-indictments this year.
Some important legal decisions were made in courts this week. Perhaps the biggest was that the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a ban on gun ownership for those who have been committed to a mental institution violates Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
Montana ruled that stand your ground law is not a license to kill. A Montana resident baited an intruder, hoping to catch the culprits for the series of burglaries.
Youth and guns – some ages may be too young to handle firearms, but the earlier the start, the more comfortable that person will be in the future.
